The Time Capsule - Military Service

Blitz exhibition free for over 60s

Tower Bridge Exhibition and HMS Belfast are hosting a Blitz themed exhibition this February (11 - 19 February) and offering anyone over 60 the chance to visit for free if they bring another member of their family.

Both attractions will be offering an action-packed programme of activities. Visitors to Tower Bridge Exhibition will learn about the role the Bridge played in wartime London from an actor playing a 1940’s ARP (Air Raid Precautions) Warden.

The Warden will guide you through the Capital’s war-torn years, using the Bridge’s remarkable vantage point to set the Tower Bridge and HMS Belfastscene. The high-level walkways will also provide a unique space to view wartime photos of the City and The Docklands.

Visitors will also be invited to recount their own memories of The Blitz by adding to a 200ft-long memorial wall that will span one of the Walkways. They will be encouraged to write down their thoughts and memories of the War on a postcard, which they can then peg to the giant memorial for others to read.

Children will be also be invited to compete in a Second World War-themed quiz, with one lucky child winning the exclusive opportunity to raise Tower Bridge and 'Kip in a Ship' onboard HMS Belfast! Entrants must visit both neighbouring attractions to enter, answering a list of questions at each site.

HMS Belfast will be running their popular medal-making activity, whereby children and families work together to make their own medals. After studying real medals from the Second World War, children will be able to create their own medal mould from Plasticene, and then cast the design in plaster so they can take a medal away with them.

Normal admission at Tower Bridge Exhibition is £5.50 for adults, £4.25 for concessions, £3.00 for children and free for under fives.

However, entrance is free for anyone who was alive during one of the war years (1939-1945) providing they are accompanied by another member of their family and they bring proof of their age.

At HMS Belfast admission for all children under 16 get is free. Admission is £8.50 for adults, £5.25 for Senior citizens, £5.25 for Students and £1.00 for Concessions.
