The Time Capsule - Childhood

War Breaks Out 1939

It was Sunday 3rd September and my 8th birthday, my friends and I were coming out of Sunday school when we heard that war had broken out. We all cheered thinking no more school, how wrong we were.

A few weeks later we all had different houses to go to in case of an air raid. But living in the country this never happened, I remember having to carry my gas mask around with me at all times.

Does any one else remember? I will always remember the day war broke out.
