| My family moved to Tickhill, Doncaster, Yorks from Sheffield (not an immense journey even in those days) around 1700. What there business was at that time I have no idea. However there was a certain John Rawson who was the second Master Cutler of Sheffield.
Whether they were moving from the steel industry into the countryside or my branch had become outcasts is open to question. What they were involved in from that time until after the Second World War was property. They were builders, property owners, developers and in the case of my father farmers.
At some time in the twentieth century a road in Tickhill was named after my family, would you believe Rawson Road. They did own property on this road but I could not say for certain that they built it. If they did this may be the reason for naming the road or it could have been for service to the village.
My father left Tickhill for Grantham in1960 thus breaking a 250 year link. Since this time I have lived in this area. I married a local girl, Judy, and we had two sons Roger and Richard.
On a recent visit to Tickhill to visit my fathers sister, who still lives there we were accompanied by our two grandchildren Ben and Tom. I took the opportunity to take the photo below showing Ben, Tom and myself in front of Rawson Road.
