| My wife and I are both pensioners. We are both from North Staffordshire and we met whilst working for the same Opticians. She was a clerk and I was employed in the workshops making spectacle lenses. However I wanted a more adventurous job and preferably outdoor so in 1951 I came to Leicestershire.
We married in 1953and lived in various places including Hinckley, Loughborough Newtown Linford and finally Melton Mowbray where we remain. We had so many moves because of my profession. We have three daughters and one son and eight grandchildren.
Since our retirement, quite a few years ago, one of our greatest pleasures is getting away in our small motor caravan. Sometimes we spend a week or more away, staying at Caravan Club and other sites up and down the country. We have spent time in Scotland, Norfolk, Dorset, Isle of Wight and the Peak District which is our favourite.
We also use the vehicle frequently for family picnics and, becuase of its size, is used for normal travelling and shopping, (It can fit under the 6'6" height limits of some public car parks). It also fits in our normal size garage which is a bonus. The picture shows my wife and I with 'Hi-Lo Lil' (white van) on a camp site known as Longnor Wood in North Staffs, about 6miles south of Buxton.
