The Time Capsule - 1800s

Frederick Tomlinson 1881

Location: Hull

Frederick Tomlinson my grandfather, was born in 1863 in Hull.   He joined the Royal Navy in 1881 and was on the Minotaur which had been converted to a training ship.   In 1882 the ship was re-converted and went to war in the Sudan.   We believe this ship took part in the bombardment of Alexandria.

My grandfather went to war in the Sudan in 1884-86 and was awarded the Khedives Medal that was only awarded for this part of the war.
