Our response to baroness hollis' comments on women and pensions amendment

Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern, said:

“We strongly welcome Baroness Hollis’ continued commitment to call for this amendment, which could boost the income of thousands of women and carers. The Government’s shocking u-turn on this issue last year dealt a blow to those women in or approaching retirement who are being penalised for taking time out of work by the current outdated system.

“The Government has a responsibility to help to protect these women from facing retirement in poverty. It should not miss a further opportunity to give them the ability to make more flexible National Insurance contributions, to ensure an adequate income in later life.“
