For three weeks in November 2007‚ Age Concern went bobble hat crazy!!
The ‘Big Knit’ partnership between Age Concern and innocent‚ the drinks company‚ is now in its fifth year. With the help of Age Concerns all over the country‚ this year’s venture has been the biggest ever. Age Concern receives 50p for every innocent smoothie sold in Sainsbury’s with a bobble hat.
A massive total of 328‚706 bobble hats were knitted by local Age Concerns around the UK and with Sainsbury’s and innocent supporters taking part‚ the ambitious target of 400‚000 hats was achieved. This year the total amount of money raised was an amazing £200‚360.
Claire Avey‚ a fundraiser at Age Concern England‚ who has been involved in the project for the past two years said: “This is such a great project to work on. You hear wonderful feedback from the local Age Concerns about the enjoyment that older people get from knitting the hats and giving something back.”
This time‚ even celebrities got in on the act by designing hats. See Chris Tarrant with his design and a life-sized version too – kindly knitted by Age Concern Surrey.
