The state of Edith Snowden’s garden used to break her heart but now she can once again get pleasure from it‚ thanks to the
“Gardening Angels” from her local Age Concern.

Edith‚ who lives in West Drayton‚ West London‚ said: “My garden used to be in such a mess. I used to pray that someone would come along to tidy it up – and now he has!”

Age Concern Hillingdon launched a much-needed Tidy Gardens Service‚
providing ‘Gardening Angels’‚ which has proved very popular.

Neil Jackson‚ who set up the service‚ said: “Although there is a charge of £10 per hour‚ it is just to cover costs.” Altogether‚ 12 gardeners are available to do the mowing‚ pruning‚ weeding and general tidying up. The London Borough of Hillingdon provides the funding for the equipment.

Gardening Angel‚ Paul Greening said: “Edith is such a lovely lady it gives me great pleasure to help her and all my other customers so that they can continue to enjoy their gardens.” Gardening is a popular service that older people enjoy but‚ unfortunately‚ not all Age Concerns can offer projects like these.
