AIMS subscription service

Benefits of subscribing to AIMS

Whilst core services are delivered free of charge to people living and working in sheltered and private retirement housing, a subscription to AIMS provides management and staff, and their residents, with access to an enhanced range of services.

Free services

  • Basic information and advice on all housing-related issues, legislation, good practice etc, with signpost to local Age Concerns and other approved Community Legal Service (CLS) service providers, as appropriate. General help with casework.
  • AIMS information sheets, reports, leaflets, booklets, posters and periodic newsletter.

Enhanced services available to subscribers

  • Casework – including detailed correspondence, suggesting solutions to specific issues, and contacting third parties on behalf of clients (either residents or managers) in order to try to resolve the case.
  • Free mediations/facilitated meetings to help resolve disputes. All subscribers are entitled to  at least one free mediation, depending on the level of subscription. Please contact AIMS for more details.

  • One free training workshop for housing management staff per year. Subjects include conflict and dispute resolution, effective communication, Right to Manage, leasehold management etc.
    Additional training sessions are available to subscribers at a reduced rate of £300 + VAT.

  • Preferential invitation to AIMS annual conference, and 50% reduction in the attendance fee.
  • Ballot counting service – a confidential, independent service for formal resident consultations. A minimum of one hour will be charged to cover the initial consultation and administrative costs. Should the process require a more significant input from AIMS’ staff, a higher fee will be charged. This will be agreed with the client beforehand. A further standard fee will be levied for ballot counting and feedback. Half price fee to subscribers: consultation £30 ph + VAT (minimum charge) + ballot counting £60 + VAT. [Fee to non-subscribers, £60 ph + VAT and £120 + VAT.]
  • Consultancy, community surveys and additional services – including independent review of internal policies and procedures, legal work for landlords, surveys and reports, and attendance by AIMS staff at housing management or resident meetings to discuss dispute resolution services and share knowledge. Reduced fee to subscribers, from £30 + VAT per hour depending on the specific service being delivered. [Fee to non-subscribers, from £60 + VAT per hour]. Any cost implications will be discussed and agreed prior to the service(s) being provided.
  • 10% discount on all courses run by Age Concern Training, a division of Age Concern England.

Cost of subscription

The subscription year runs April - March. Subscription for a full year is 50 pence per retirement housing unit under management (minimum fee £252 pa + VAT). Payment can be made by invoice or standing order.

Where applicable, the following additional charges will apply:

  • Travel.  Where travel is undertaken as part of AIMS service delivery, travel expenses will be charged. Minimum charge £25 + VAT per AIMS staff member. Subsistence and venue costs (if venue not provided) will be charged at cost, as applicable, and agreed in advance as far as possible.
  • Cancellations and Postponements.  AIMS requires at least 5 working days notice of cancellation or postponement of mediations, meetings, site visits or training sessions. Cancellations and postponements with fewer than 5 working days notice will attract a £75 cancellation charge. Travel and any other expenses already incurred will also be charged.
