Spirituality: Roots and Routes

Spirituality book coverSpirituality: Roots and Routes
A secular reflection on the practice of spiritual care

Why have we produced a book about spirituality? Surely‚ religious people should be involved‚ not a secular charity? This new book‚ looking at the spiritual needs of older people‚ deals with these questions by asserting that spirituality is part of being human and is not just the possession of religions.

It offers descriptions of what older people’s spiritual needs might be‚ from a secular perspective‚ and gives practical expression to different ways of offering spiritual care. It suggests that spiritual care is an essential component of all work with older people.

It illustrates how developments in health and social care are beginning to recognise that spiritual care can have a beneficial effect on the well-being of the whole person‚ mind and body.

The book contains references and contributions from well-known experts and practitioners.

Gerry Burke‚ the author‚ has recently retired after working in Age Concern for nearly thirty years.
