What we want

As the current care system is not working, we are calling for the Government to make radical changes to the care system and soon.

We want to see changes made to ensure all older people who need some form of care or support, receive care and support thay is high quality and meets their needs. We want the Government to introduce a minimum standard of care.

There are five building blocks that need to be cemented into place to create a strong foundation for a minimum standard of care. These are:

  • Money
  • Dignity
  • Clarity
  • Fairness
  • Independence

At the moment there are severe weaknesses in these building blocks which need to be filled to ensure older people receive good quality care. Find out more below.

  • ThumbnailMoney

Currently public bodies spend £5.7 billion on care services for older people, but even this considerable sum is not enough to provide support and care to all who need it.

  • ThumbnailDignity

Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity, this is especially important when you are receiving care.

  • clarity building blockClarity

For many older people and their families, the care system is very confusing and daunting.

  • fairness building blockFairness

Fairness is an essential building block. Every person who uses the care system, no matter what their needs, should be treated fairly and equally.

  • ThumbnailIndependence

Older people have told us that they want to receive care which enables them to stay in their own home for as long as possible.
