'Joy of ageing' poetry competition winner Bernard Knowles:
ageway
with my old village‚ young days stayed left behind
kind roads bound me to their ways
praising the truthful way to manhood
none could ever have travelled more honest miles
crossing yearly stiles into fields of better heart
parted long ago‚ the innocent boy‚ laughing free
being the man now‚ without slight regret
yet never forgetting the cornerstone‚ my youth
upon which truth‚ a store for life‚ was built so strong
wrong paths could not divert‚ tempt me to early halt
faulty signs were never seen‚ nor mean clouds could bar my destinations sight
mighty hills‚ valleys wide‚ oceans tide‚ made no division
provision of determination bridged them all
call of destiny proved beyond their powers
days of smiles and flowers‚ my reward
