The joys of growing old

Poetry competition runner-up Jackie Waters:

The joys of growing old...

When ironing is something you want to do to your face
Then gravity has definitely won the race!
When you forget what you was trying to remember…..
Then you know Spring has sprung and you’re getting real close to December

When you pass up on a night out for slippers by the fire
Then even Mr. Sandman is starting to tire….
When you cancel the Salsa classes for something less spicy
Then you know you’re giving in to a future decidedly more icy

When you look down and can’t quite see your feet
Then tummy tuck options start to look neat…
When you regularly wonder where did you put those keys?
Then you know old age has got you almost on your knees

When you at last take stock of the situation
Then you can finally get hold of this desecration!
When you tell yourself you’ll fight it till the last
Then‚ and only then will those old age gremlins be a thing of the past!
