Patrick South, Head of Public Affairs for Age Concern, said:
“The Government has a good record on addressing pensioner poverty over the last decade. But huge hikes in the cost of food and fuel have been a heavy blow to many pensioners already struggling to make ends meet. Older people living on low incomes want ministers to wake-up to the hardship they’re facing by taking decisive action.
“The Chancellor’s performance before MPs on the Treasury Select Committee today will only reinforce concerns that the Government is sleepwalking through the fuel poverty crisis. The Prime Minister must prove he is in touch with people’s concerns by holding an urgent summit to kick-start the Government’s failing fuel poverty strategy.”
