Choice of accommodation: care homes - Information sheet 25

Choosing the right care home for yourself or someone you care about is hugely important.  Often choice seems to be limited‚ particularly if the local authority is funding.  This information sheet explains the current legal position in respect of:

  • Your right to choose a home;
  • Top-up payments for more expensive homes;
  • When local authorities should pay more than their usual limits;
  • Short term placements while waiting for your preferred home.
