Following the new Prime Minister’s pledge that housing will be his top priority‚ a Green Paper was published in July 2007. This confirmed an increased annual target of 240‚000 homes from 2016.
We are calling for new homes to be built to the Lifetime Home standard‚ as envisaged by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
This is because increasing age-related disability‚ limited housing options for older people and an inadequate adaptations system is impacting on the ability to live independently at home.
The government’s Housing Strategy for an Ageing Population will be published in 2007. This will deal with specialised and mainstream housing options for older people‚ now and in the future‚ as well as related services.
