Advice and information for professionals

AIMS provides information and advice on sheltered or retirement housing related issues, legislation, good practice etc. This is based on the relevant legislation and accepted industry codes of practice. We combine expertise in delivering specialist advice on matters of sheltered housing with the experience of Age Concern in working with and for older people.

We also provide general help with casework, provide specific written advice on request, and can make site visits, where appropriate. AIMS has a Quality Mark from the Community Legal Service in the general help with housing casework category. AIMS is continually raising awareness of issues and examples of good practice which arise from its casework.

Some of the most common issues which we help with include:

  • Rents and service charges;
  • Role of the warden or scheme manager;
  • Rights to repairs and improvements;
  • Consultation rights and tenant participation;
  • Noise and neighbour disputes.

AIMS also has a number of information factsheets, reports, leaflets, booklets, posters and a periodic newsletter, all available on request.

While the service is always free of charge to any older person who lives in sheltered or retirement housing, landlords and management companies involved in sheltered or retirement housing who wish to incorporate AIMS’ impartial and independent information advice and mediation service into their customer service and complaints processes are asked to contribute towards AIMS’ costs by payment of an annual subscription.
