Age Concern's Grandparent of the Year 2009 in association with Specsavers

Grandfather laughing with his grandsonThe search is on to find the nation's favourite grandparent to take over the much coveted title of Grandparent of the Year!

If you know someone who you think deserves this title‚ you can nominate them online. This person might be a relative‚ or a special older person (50+) who has influenced your life‚ without actually being related to you.

"Grandparents are at the heart of family life"

Age Concern and Specsavers recognise the important contribution made by grandparents and celebrate intergenerational relationships. Grandparents are at the heart of active family life.

Many grandparents are positive role models for their grandchildren as they have age and experience on their side. They give their grandchildren their love‚ friendship and time‚ playing an unforgettable part in their lives.

In the words of the legendary entertainer‚ Bruce Forsyth: "I have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. If that doesn't keep you young‚ what can?"

The competition

A panel of judges will select 13 regional winners from around the UK. From these‚ five national finalists will be invited on a VIP trip to London with their families. The grand final will be held at the House of Commons hosted by TV broadcaster Fiona Phillips:

"Age Concern's Grandparent of the Year award is always very special‚ spending time with the national finalists‚ and seeing first hand the love‚ wisdom and support they share with their grandchildren is an extraordinary example of us all"
- Fiona Phillips‚ Age Concern Ambassador
