The information given in this factsheet is applicable in England. Different rules may apply in Wales‚ Northern Ireland and Scotland. Readers in these nations should contact their respective national Age Concern organisation for information specific to where they live.

New age discrimination law

New legislation came into force on 1st October 2006 which provides protection against age discrimination in employment and education for the first time. The new law is mentioned in this factsheet‚ but for full details see Information Sheet 17 'How will the new law on age discrimination affect you'?
