This factsheet provides a basic guide to income tax allowances for older people aged 60 and over. This includes basic information about income tax for older people for the tax year 6 April 2008 to 5 April 2009.

The factsheet has been updated to include new measures introduced by the Government in 2008-09 to reduce the impact of the abolition of the 10% rate of Income Tax in most circumstances.
