Many Age Concerns around the country are helping to plug the gap in NHS services by running basic toenail cutting or foot care service.
In some cases Primary Care Trusts give funding to Age Concerns interested in setting up toenail cutting or foot care services. More often PCT help out by training volunteers or foot care assistants employed by Age Concern. But while some Age Concerns running foot care services have good partnerships with PCTs‚ for others setting up and running a service is fraught with difficulties.
Age Concerns have been faced with the choice of charging for their service‚ in order to be able to run it or leaving vulnerable older people on low incomes without any service at all.
To find out if your local Age Concern runs a foot care service please contact your local Age Concern.
