About us

Services Development information is provided our Research & Development Unit (social care) team. The information is designed to support the work of those who plan‚ deliver and monitor services in the field.

We use the collective experience of Age Concern to highlight good practice and innovations‚ as well as relevant national policies and national trends.  Publications are provided for Age Concern Organisations and all Age Concern Groups that elect to receive them. They are also available for purchase by any organisation interested in the provision of services to older people.

What can we provide?

Information tailored as closely as possible to your needs. This may be a simple summary of existing services including contact details or more detailed information about service provision.  You may only be interested in a particular region or a particular target group. The detailed classification system enables both broad and very specific enquiries to be answered.  For example‚ we can provide information on:

• services for men/women only
• support services for carers of people with dementia
• advocacy services for people in care homes
• services making regular telephone calls to housebound or isolated clients
• hospital aftercare services
• learning and leisure opportunities
• services run in partnership 

Who should use the helpdesk?

Anyone who:

• is running a service; or is monitoring‚ reviewing‚ researching‚ planning‚ funding‚ developing or supporting services
• needs to be put in touch with/signposted to another Age Concern/service provider
• is interested in overall provision of particular services
• has a question about services for older people
• wishes to provide us with information about a new service they run

What’s in the services database?

The services database holds information about services and activities offered by the Age Concern Federation.  Particulars held include types of services‚ their target user groups‚ funders‚ opening hours‚ charges (if any)‚ numbers of users‚ and numbers of staff and volunteers involved in running them (where this information is available).

The services database is an ideal starting point for people researching‚ planning or supporting the development of services for older people. The Helpdesk exists to deliver information from services database to your desk tailored as closely as possible to your needs.
