Age Concern launched 'Down‚ but not out' last year. The campaign report Undiagnosed‚ untreated‚ at risk outlines Age Concern's recommendations to improve the diagnosis and treatment of depression in older people. The report can be downloaded in PDF format by clicking on the link at the top right-hand side of this page.

Age Concern has also produced materials to help older people and their families and friends to spot the symptoms of depression and seek help early.

Leaflets in the series include:

  • Spotting the signs of depression
  • Discussing depression with your GP
  • Coping with depression
  • Supporting a loved one with depression

If you would like free hard copies of our leaflets mailed to you‚ please email the 'Down‚ but not out' campaign‚ making sure you include your name‚ address and the quantity you would like us to send.

We are also pleased to advise that a team of experts‚ led by Dr Philip Wilkinson from Oxford University‚ are developing a series of factsheets for our website that give more in-depth information on depression. These will be available from August 2009.

In partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)‚ Age Concern  produced a resource for GPs and other primary care professionals called 'Take the Challenge' to test current knowledge and assumptions about depression in later life.
