Over 14 million people aged 50+ in the UK have not used the internet. Such “digital exclusion” impacts upon the quality of later life and those without information and communication technology (ICT) access and skills are increasingly excluded from life enhancing facilities and opportunities‚ including employment and access to information and services. Digital exclusion is a form of social exclusion which will increasingly impact on the economic and social welfare of older people and their involvement in communities.
Age Concern encourages and supports older people to enable those who want to‚ to continue to make a contribution to the local and national economy. ICT skills are essential for people who wish to enter and/or remain in the workforce. Age Concern works with the ICT sector to enable older people to benefit from the opportunities the digital age provides‚ supporting training‚ access and support for digital inclusion activities.
