Our policy position

We believe that product and service providers should take account of the needs of older people to ensure that:

  • they are not marginalised in the competitive‚ high tech market
  • they are able to access the range and quality of goods and services they require
  • they can live independently for as long as possible.

What we are doing to protect older consumers

To ensure we continue to represent older consumers we are:

  • on the Consumer Expert Ministerial Advisory Group on digital switchover
  • working with the Consumer Protection working group for digital switchover‚ to minimise opportunities the switch may present for rogue traders and distraction burglars
  • on the advisory group to Postwatch on post offices
  • on the Office of Fair Trading’s advisory group which aims to improve standards of codes of practice in service industries
  • on the Energy Efficiency Partnership Fuel Poverty Advisory Group.
