There is a great variety of work taking place through regional and local Age Concerns with black and minority ethnic communities. A selection of projects and programmes is outlined here.

Age Concern Blackburn with Darwen runs an Ageing Well Asian Heritage Project, Welfare Benefits Services for BME older people and the Apna Ghar Day Centre. 01254 266 620

Age Concern Bolton runs an Ageing Well programme focusing on older people from minority ethnic communities – particularly Asian and African-Caribbean elders. 01204 382 411

Age Concern Buckinghamshire offers information, advice and advocacy services for older people, including BME elders. 01296 431 911

Age Concern Calderdale runs an Asian Women's Group (01422 252 373), day care for minority ethnic elders staffed by Asian workers and social day centres, including an Asian Women's Centre - both 01422 252 040

Age Concern Camden provides telephone advice and support to the Bangladeshi community (020 7837 3777), Bengali carers support and a Bengali men's group – both 020 7278 5090

Age Concern Coventry provides information and advice for Asian elders, particularly outreach work. 024 7663 3114

Age Concern Dacorum runs the Cinamon and Saffron Club, providing opportunities for socialising and making friends. 01442 259 049

Age Concern Dudley's Activity Centre, Netherton provides health and educational activities for over 50s and engages with BME elders, though not through specific services. 01384 343 535

Age Concern Ealing offers an Irish Advice Service (funded by the Irish Government) and has plans to set up a Polish social club. 020 8992 0898

Age Concern Harrow provides information, advice and advocacy to Asian elders in a variety of languages. 020 8861 7980

Age Concern Herefordshire and Worcestershire runs an Ethnic Minorities Elders Project comprising lunch clubs, exercise classes, English classes, information outreach and advice. 01905 726 652

Age Concern Hertfordshire offers outreach support for Asian (01707 322 664) and Italian (01462 420 911) elders, as well as information and advocacy

Age Concern Hillingdon runs a Multicultutal Food and Fitness Club and an Ethnic Minority Advocacy Project for Somali and Asian elders 01895 431 331 / 231 841

Age Concern Hounslow offers BME information and advice services as well as social, recreational and educational activities at its Albany Social Centre. 020 8560 6969

Age Concern Islington provides advice and information services in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi, as well as an Asian older people's group, through its BME Elders Project. 020 7281 6018

Age Concern Lancashire runs an Ageing Well project (01282 680 664) and Ashiani Day Care service (01282 427 222)

Age Concern Leicestershire and Rutland coordinates the Minority Ethnic Forum (0116 299 2241), offers specialist BME information and advice (0116 299 2233) and undertakes development work with its BME communities (0116 299 2252)

Age Concern Metro Rochdale runs a lunch club for Asian elders 07802 734 038

Age Concern Newham runs Age Well Clubs to promote healthy activities, including mother tongue groups for particular communities. 020 8586 8853 / 8503 4800

Age Concern Oxfordshire, City and County runs a weekly Asian elders lunch club, weekly drop-in and outreach work in Banbury particularly to the Pakistani community. 01235 849 400

Age Concern Sandwell runs a small day centre, with weekly provision specifically for Asian elders where Punjabi is spoken. 0121 5252 499

Age Concern Slough has a daily drop in service for Asian elders, while Age Works is designed to enable people to get back into work. 01753 822 890

Age Concern Southampton runs a daily Asian Elders Drop In Centre, accessed by Sikh, Gujrati and Muslim communities and, more recently, African and Fijian elders. 023 8063 6865

Age Concern South Staffordshire runs twice weekly lunch clubs for Asian elders, with easy access to and from the local Mosque. 01283 593 021
