Age equality: our policy position

Our vision is of an age equal society that:

  • respects the value and diversity of individuals of all ages
  • promotes solidarity and justice between generations.

Achieving age equality involves balancing the goals of equal citizenship, equality of opportunity and equality of outcome while respecting people’s different needs and aspirations.

Our policy work on age equality is currently focusing on securing the best possible legislation to tackle age discrimination in goods and services, together with an effective public sector duty to promote age equality.

We are also working to make the age discrimination regulations on employment and adult learning more effective for older people.

We aim to be a key partner to the Equality and Human Rights commission. We have produced a briefing that sets out areas which we believe should be the priorities for this partnership. The briefing can be downloaded at the top right hand side of this page.

We belong to the Equality and Diversity Forum which is the network of national organisations committeed to progress on age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation and broader equality and human rights issues. See external links on the right hand side of this page.
