Age Concern England convened an International Symposium on age discrimination on behalf of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) in London in September 2005. A report of the Symposium is available to download. The Symposium was a pre-meeting leading up to the IFA’s 8th Global conference in Copenhagen, May 2006.
There are different levels of discussion about age discrimination across the world and different meanings are ascribed to the concept at political and civic levels.
The five papers below were put together in order to generate a clearer understanding of how age discrimination is experienced by older people and understood within civil society in America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Australasia.
These papers are designed to stimulate debate about whether there is, and can be, a global conceptualisation of age discrimination in the range of contexts experienced across the world.
