Please fill in our age discrimination questionnaire

Why are we carrying out this questionnaire?
Since October 2006‚ age discrimination in the workplace has been against the law. But age discrimination in goods and services is still legal.
The government is now looking at options for tackling this type of age discrimination.
We need evidence from older people to support a call for a change in the law.
Please help us with our campaign and tell us about YOUR experiences.
In using the information you give us‚ we will not use your name or any details that might identify you to a third party.
We often hear of older people who have faced problems when they were trying to:
We also hear about ageist attitudes in health and social care services.
Here are some examples of age discrimination:
Mr L was dismayed to find out that his building society is no longer willing to offer annual travel insurance to people over 65 – even to long term customers like himself. He is prepared to accept an increase in premium because of his age – but not a complete refusal to provide cover for him.
Mrs A suffers from depression following a bereavement 15 years ago. For five years she has attended a drop-in centre where her condition improved – but now she is 65 she has been asked to leave. She has discovered that mental health services for the over 65s are mainly targeted at people with dementia.
Mr H‚ who is in his 60s‚ applied to go on a working holiday doing conservation work for a national charity. The charity rejected him because of his age‚ telling him that some holidays are reserved for the under 40s because this group doesn’t like socialising with ‘the oldies’.
