Tess Daly has been an ambassador for Age Concern since 2006. She has recently hosted three series of the award-winning Strictly Come Dancing series for Saturday nights on BBC1 with Bruce Forsyth. The live primetime entertainment show‚ which sees celebrities compete on the dance floor‚ has proved a huge ratings success for BBC1. Recently Tess teamed up with husband Vernon Kay for Just The Two Of Us for primetime BBC1. The series saw celebrities being paired with their singing idols.
One of Stockport’s most treasured exports‚ Tess has made quite a name for herself since giving up the world of modelling to concentrate on presenting. Tess was spotted by Models One as a teenager‚ and went on to achieve great modelling success. Her first presenting break came in 1999 when she spent six weeks scouring the country for The Big Breakfast’s Find Me A Model Competition. Since then she hasn’t looked back and stints on The Phone Zone for BBC UK Play and The Mix for ITV led to her presenting Singled Out for Channel Five/MTV‚ Surf Trip for Channel Four and Smash Hits TV for Sky One.
One of TV's most in demand presenters
In 2003‚ Tess was waking up the nation on its favourite Saturday morning show SM:tv (ITV1). For ITV1‚ Tess has presented the daytime heats for Britain’s Brainiest Kids and The Clothes Show‚ and for ITV2‚ the live coverage of The National TV Awards. She fronted a series of Home On Their Own (ITV1)‚ helping children up and down the country revamp their family homes‚ while The Christmas Show (ITV1) saw her getting festive with Eammon Holmes.
A popular choice with all the broadcasters‚ Tess has presented The Dancestar Awards for MTV‚ Exclusive for Channel Five and LA Pool Party for the BBC. For BBC1 Tess hosted the mammoth live fundraising event Sport Relief in 2004‚ and for Five‚ Tess hosted Back To Reality‚ which saw the most famous reality TV stars living in a ‘Truman Show-style’ house for three weeks. Last year she presented the live two hour final of Find Me A Supermodel‚ which awarded an aspiring model a contract. Tess also co-hosted The All Time Greatest Love Songs a musical extravaganza for BBC1 alongside Lionel Ritchie.
Tess comments‚ “I was honoured when Age Concern asked me to become one of their ambassadors. I feel very strongly that our older generations need a voice in society that can be heard. We too often hear terrible stories of isolation‚ loneliness and neglect affecting people in later life - by raising everyone’s awareness and supporting the work of Age Concern‚ these stories will hopefully become a thing of the past. I’m extremely proud to say that I work with Age Concern.”
