Employers across the UK are being encouraged to utilise the extensive skills base that older workers can afford.
A new paper compiled by the Age and Employment Network (TAEN), entitled Tapping into the Older Worker Talent Pool, says that despite the recent implementation of age discrimination regulations, many employers are retaining a bias against older workers.
According to Alice Snell, vice president of Taleo Research, who partnered TAEN in the paper: "Organisations can gain a significant advantage from adopting a skills-based approach to recruiting that creates a level playing field for older workers," the TAEN website states.
Patrick Grattan, chief executive of TAEN, also said that employment should be based upon "skills and experience regardless of age".
The paper coincides with the government-led Leitch review on skills in the workplace, which made a commitment to dramatically improve skill levels by 2020.
