Emotional and social support at home

Most Age Concerns can offer emotional and social support to you in your own home.

What does the service offer?

Befriending and visiting services
We have a number of volunteers who can visit isolated‚ frail and lonely older people. A volunteer befriender will visit you regularly‚ provide social contact to reduce loneliness and isolation and if appropriate‚ encourage participation in local community activities.

At all times you will be treated with dignity and their individual needs‚ wishes and preferences will be respected.

Advocacy
Advocacy offers practical assistance to help you to secure your rights and access services. It provides you with someone to listen to your concerns and clarify what assistance you need. Your advocate will represent you when dealing with service providers to ensure you get the help and support you require.

Counselling
There are many situations in later life that can seem difficult such as increasing illness or disability‚ isolation and loneliness‚ moving into residential care or the death of loved ones.

To help you through these times‚ some Age Concerns can provide you with access to trained counsellors who can offer a regular space in which you can talk about your concerns‚ and explore your feelings about what is going on.
