Intergenerational volunteer

Would you like to be an intergenerational volunteer and share your knowledge‚ skills and experiences with children and young people?

Intergenerational contact can be extremely rewarding for both older people and children‚ especially if they are living in:

  • poverty
  • troubled communities
  • loneliness and isolation
  • difficult family situations

What you will be doing

As a volunteer you will be trained and placed where you are most needed‚ such as:

  • at a local school
  • with refugee families
  • in hospitals

If you are supporting children you might be involved in the following activities:

  • reading or writing
  • local history
  • arts‚ crafts and music
  • helping preserve the environment.

Projects are also being developed where children join older people in residential homes and sheltered housing to develop shared activities such as cookery‚ IT and gardening.

The benefits

Many of our volunteers have found the experience extremely rewarding - read your comments about the scheme.
