Making work work for everyone: welfare reform review
Alongside publication of the green paper on welfare reform and the report on conditionality (see Work and Learning section), Pensions secretary James Purnell launched a review to determine how more people can be helped off benefits and into work. Led by Professor Paul Gregg of the University of Bristol, the review aims to develop a challenging and effective sanction regime that is tailored to the needs of individuals and motivates them to ‘do the right thing’. It will consider the work potential and caring needs of whole families and study best practice from other countries.
