Older travellers generally‚ and more particularly‚ those who have medical conditions‚ find it more difficult to obtain the travel insurance they need.

Many providers of travel insurance take the view that they do not provide cover for people above a certain age.Some simply exclude cover for all pre-existing medical conditions.

Age Concern’s view is that this approach does not always provide customers with the appropriate cover they need:

• Age is not a reason to restrict or refuse cover; and there is no need to exclude cover for many medical conditions which can‚ and
  should be covered‚
• Travel insurance is not a “luxury” – it is an essential element of any trip or holiday‚ whether travelling in the UK or jetting off to an exotic location.

That's why Age Concern  Travel Insurance has no upper age limit and will cover pre - existing medical conditions wherever possible.

Before applying for cover‚ you and each person to be insured must consider the following.

What about my medical condition?

If you are travelling outside the United Kingdom‚ you will be asked the following questions about your medical condition(s)

If your answer is YES to any of the questions below‚ you will be asked for more information about your condition to establish if full cover can be provided and the premium required. You will NOT be covered if at the time of taking out this insurance you answer YES to any of these questions and fail to disclose your pre-existing medical conditions. For those customers with Annual Multi- trip cover‚ you must phone us on 0845 685 1058 if there is a change in your health during the policy year.

Medical Screening Questions

1. Do you have more than one of the following conditions?

• Asthma (requiring no hospital admissions and no supplementary oxygen)
• High Blood Pressure/Hypertension
• Diabetes (if well controlled and no associated conditions)       YES/NO

2. In the last year have you been treated as a hospital in patient or been referred to a specialist consultant?     YES/NO

3. Have you been treated for :

• a breathing condition (other than asthma - as per Question 1)
• a heart - related condition
• a circulatory condition such as Deep Vein Thrombosis      YES/NO

4. Have you ever been diagnosed with Cancer?      YES/NO

Medical Exclusions

In the following circumstances Age Concern Travel Insurance will not be able to cover you‚ if you or anyone on whom the trip depends answers yes to any of the following :

• is waiting for an operation‚ hospital consultation (other than for regular check ups for a stable condition)‚ or other hospital treatment or investigations‚ or are awaiting the results of any tests or investigations; or
• has received a terminal prognosis; or
• is travelling against medical advice or for the purpose of obtaining treatment‚ or
• is expected to give birth before or within 14 weeks of arrival home
