Eat well - age well

Green appleEating well is a positive choice to make.  A healthy balanced diet contains a variety of types of food‚ including lots of fruit‚ vegetables and starchy foods such as wholemeal bread‚ protein rich foods such as meat‚ fish‚ eggs and pulses and some dairy foods. 

Top tips for eating well

  • Base your meals on starchy foods
  • Eat lots of different fruits and vegetables
  • Eat more fish‚ including one portion of oily fish each week
  • Have some protein and iron rich foods every day
  • Cut down on saturated fat and sugar
  • Eat less salt – no more than 6g a day
  • Make sure you get plenty of vitamin D‚ either from foods or from a supplement
  • Get active and try and be a healthy weight
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Enjoy your food!
