Age Concern England Director-General‚ Gordon Lishman‚ said:
“It’s worrying that in the 21st century‚ 1 in 6 care homes do not meet national minimum standards for meals. Every care home should achieve the high standards set by the top 10 performing councils listed in the report.
“Care homes must involve older people more with their dietary needs and find out what their individual likes and dislikes are. Help to eat food should be available when necessary and better quality food must be available with wider choices that cater for the diverse needs of residents.
“Age Concern welcomes the new report and urges all care homes to have enough staff that are all properly trained and managed to fully meet the needs of older people.”
