On March 28th 2006 the National Council on Ageing Rural Affairs Subgroup held a seminar to examine the future of rural post offices. At that meeting the members of the Subgroup received and heard evidence from a number of organisations:

• Postwatch
• PostComm
• Post Offices Counters Ltd
• The National Federation of Women’s Institute

The event raised some important issues for the Age Concern Federation and the wider age sector.

This paper summaries some of the key findings and identifies ways in which local groups and organisations can make sure their voice is heard in the forthcoming government consultation on rural post offices which will be available for public consultation in the Summer.
