Housing

The home environment is generally recognised as an important aspect of most older people’s lives.

Housing plays a key role in the well-being of older people as they regard their homes not merely as a shelter but also as a place to feel safe, secure and warm and, above all, to live comfortably and independently for as long as possible.

Older people should be able to live in housing that is of an appropriate standard and in which they can retain their dignity and independence as members of the community.

Read our policy position on housing for older people and chapters from our Age Agenda 2007 report - download these papers from the top right hand side of this page.
