Gordon Lishman‚ Director General of Age Concern‚ awarded CBE (3.01.06)

The Award recognises Gordon’s outstanding contribution at Age Concern and his wider work with older people.

Gordon has worked for Age Concern England since 1974 and was appointed Director General in 2000. Currently Gordon’s priorities for Age Concern are achieving a lasting settlement on pensions‚ equal protection for older people against discrimination‚ the launch of Heyday during 2006 and improving health and social care for older people. Gordon is also Secretary of AGE‚ the European Older People’s Platform and International Vice President of the International Federation on Ageing.

Gordon who was awarded an OBE in 1993‚ is married with 3 children and is expecting his first grandchild next year. He graduated in economics and political science from the University of Manchester in 1968 and he has an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire (2002).

Gordon Lishman said‚ “I am pleased to receive this award which is an award for everybody in Age Concern. It is a reflection of how effective Age Concern has been in recent years and it is based on a great deal of hard and focused work by a very large number of people throughout the whole of the UK.”
