In response to the report published today on continuing care by the health service ombudsman (14.03.07)

Gordon Lishman‚ Director General of Age Concern‚ said:

"We are pleased that the Ombudsman has addressed the issue about interest and compensation for the considerable distress families have suffered because of the long delays.

"Regrettably this is just a small element of the unfairness of the care system. The Department of Health - and the rest of Government - need to have a proper look at the way care is delivered‚ funded and distributed. The short term attitudes‚ the lack of investment and the efforts to shift costs and responsibility between health and social care is letting down people who need and deserve care."
