Pat Connolly from Homerton‚ East London
Nominated by grandson Aaron Fisher
Aaron‚ 12‚ nominated his Nan because she has looked after him since his father died and his mother abandoned him at the age of five. Pat has provided him with love‚ care and stability ever since. They love watching EastEnders together and Pat recently gave Aaron a dog for Christmas to give him something to love and to be responsible for.
Aaron says “My Nan is special because she has always been there for me‚ she helped me to get over my mum leaving‚ and she helps me with my homework. She would do anything for her grandchildren and she deserves to win Grandparent of the Year”.
Pat has six grandchildren whose ages range from 3-15. She was present when most of them were born and remembers being overwhelmed with love every time. Pat says‚ “It is hard to explain the feelings you have for your grandchildren‚ the love you have is so special‚ it’s a different feeling to any other.”
Pat’s favourite memories of Aaron are the parties and holidays they’ve shared‚ even if it’s not been easy she has always made sure Aaron has had a holiday every year. They share a love of soaps and they both like some of the same types of music – although Pat is not keen on rap!
Pat says: “I feel like a winner just to be nominated and it’s lovely to know Aaron appreciates me so much. All my grandchildren are special but my relationship with Aaron is different as I have day-to-day responsibility for him.”
