Our response to the government plans to amend the pensions bill 2007 to allow automatic enrolment into workplace personal pensions (wpps) after receiving confirmation that this is consistent with EU law (16.05.08)

Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern, said:

"This is excellent news and should help millions of people, many of whom are women, to start saving for their retirement. Now we’re clear that EU law allows it, all eligible employees will be automatically enrolled into a pension which, if they choose to stay in, will ensure they receive a financial contribution from their employer.

“The Government must now ensure that all pension schemes are of a high standard, and that good quality information and advice is widely available to help people make informed choices about their retirement savings.”
