On 12 August 2008‚ the 'Down‚ but not out' campaign launched with a 24-page report which can be downloaded in PDF format by clicking on the link at the top right-hand side of this page.

Age Concern has also produced materials to help older people and their families and friends to spot the symptoms of depression and seek help early.

Leaflets in the series include:

  • Spotting the signs of depression
  • Discussing depression with your GP
  • Coping with depression
  • Supporting a loved one with depression

If you would like free hard copies of our leaflets mailed to you‚ please email the 'Down‚ but not out' campaign‚ making sure you include your name‚ address and the quantity you would like us to send.

We are also pleased to advise that a team of experts‚ led by Dr Philip Wilkinson from Oxford University‚ are developing a series of factsheets for our website that give more in-depth information on depression. These will be added at the end of January 2009.

Age Concern is also working in partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to produce a resource for GPs and other primary care professionals to improve the diagnosis of older people with depression and to ensure that they receive effective treatments. This resource will be added when it becomes available.
