A lot of the work we do at Age Concern is centred on helping and supporting older people who live on their own. For many of these people‚ Sunday is the day that means more to them than any other - a day traditionally for getting together with all the family for lunch.
We're hoping that The Great Sunday Lunch will grow into a major national event‚ which symbolises the importance of families and social inclusion for the older generation.
What we would like you to do is to host your own Great Sunday Lunch and ask your guests to make a generous donation. Just think‚ if they went out for a cheap pub carvery‚ they'd pay at least £10 a head; if each person donates between £5-£10 we'll be VERY happy!
Food for thought
It's an unpalatable truth that in this country many older people are not treated with the dignity they deserve‚ and are often left isolated from their community. Age Concern believes this is not acceptable.
Our incredibly wide range of projects‚ initiatives and campaigns seek to address these issues. For example‚ we lobby Parliament to improve the overall lot of older people and stamp out ageism. And at a local level‚ we provide thousands of meals and much needed social interaction for older people‚ who in many cases would otherwise not see anybody for weeks on end.
The facts do not paint a pretty picture:
The money we raise with your help will help to improve the quality of life of many lonely older people.
So‚ please‚ do get involved with the Great Sunday Lunch and help ensure that older people do not have to suffer alone.
