Our comment on breast cancer care research (21.09.07)

Our comment on Breast Cancer Care research showing a lack of awareness breast cancer risk rising with age for women

Michelle Mitchell‚ Communications Director of Age Concern‚ said:

“It is alarming that so few women understand that the risk of breast cancer rises with age.  Yet‚ despite the risk increasing‚ the NHS stops inviting women to get their breasts screened once they reach the age of 70.

“Age Concern wants the upper age limit for routine breast screening to be extended beyond 70‚ in-line with government commitments to stamp out ageism in the NHS. Until this logical step is taken‚ women over 70 should exercise their right to have a free breasts screening on the NHS once every three years. “
