Tackling Age Discrimination beyond the workplace

Seminar series

In February 2006‚ we held a series of three seminars to explore how protection against age discrimination might be extended to include a positive duty on public authorities and cover the provision of goods and services.

The seminars‚ which were held at the Law Society‚ were designed to inform debate about ageism and age discrimination at a key stage in the development of government policy in this field.

The work of the Discrimination Law Review and the Equalities Review was in progress at the time when these events took place‚ and representatives of both review teams attended the seminars.

This report gives a summary of the speakers’ presentations at the three seminars and – on a non-attributed basis – the comments and discussion that followed the presentations. The report does not necessarily reflect the views or policies of Age Concern. It may be freely quoted‚ provided the source is acknowledged.
