Our response to the extension of free bus travel for pensioners (01.04.08)

Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern England, said:

“Free national bus travel will help many pensioners to stay in touch with friends and family.  It will also help them access services, such as hospitals, which are not always within the boundaries covered by free local bus passes.

However tokens for other transport, such as taxis, should be offered as an alternative. This would help older people living in areas without buses and those with health problems for whom bus travel isn’t suitable.”
