Caring Together - Bright Ideas Case Study

Caring Together in Woodhouse & Little London were successful in May 2007 with an application to the Bright Ideas Scheme. The group have been successful with their ‘Swimming for older people’ project.

This is an excellent project which will compliment the groups existing range of healthy living activities. A series of new swimming sessions will run every fortnight and will be open to all members of the group. They have been awarded a grant of £500 which will contribute towards Transport costs to enable older people to get to the swimming centre.

The Activities Manager at Caring Together in Woodhouse & Little London‚ Cherril Cliff said that the project ‘will enable them to provide much needed disabled accessible transport to take a group of their members swimming at the local leisure centre.’ The project will allow older people to meet with friends and maintain social links.

The swimming itself will improve health‚ fitness and mental health of participants. Cherril says the project has been excellent‚ ‘We have just had two new members join the group and as one commented last week 'I had forgotten what it was like to go in a swimming pool. I can't swim but that doesn't matter. I really enjoyed it and felt so well afterwards.  The company was lovely and I can't wait to go again'.
