Our response to the healthcare commission report on the outbreak of clostridium difficile (10.10.07)

(C.difficile) at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

Gordon Lishman‚ Director General of Age Concern England‚ said:

”We welcome the Healthcare Commission’s commitment to treat this recent outbreak of Clostridium Difficile (C.difficile)‚ as a high priority.

“Health Trusts must do more to protect patients against C.difficile‚ and should pay particular attention to older patients who are the group most at risk of contracting this infection.

“High standards of cleanliness are paramount for controlling both C.difficile and MRSA.  We urge all health providers to follow the guidance from the Health Protection Agency and ensure hygiene is top priority to prevent unnecessary health complications and deaths.”
